Intense back pain. Advice?
Question by carpiegrl: Intense back pain. Advice?
Its been slow coming, but my lower back is hurting so bad I can’t sleep, and it hurts to stand, sit, lay down, etc.
A little over a year ago I slipped on the ice returning textbooks at my university (so yes, I am young, only 21), and a few hours later, it came on very suddenly and I could not stand, sit, lay down, etc. I am active (college cheerleader), but have always had an exaggerated curve to my lower back. Luckily it was the end of the semester and I just finished finals. The doctor found no slipped discs, etc and didn’t know what caused it. I was prescribed pain meds and muscle relaxants.
From time to time I get the pain, but now its close to the intensity it was when I first hurt it. It hurts so bad it causes me to cry (probably also due to sleep deprivation). I have finals in two weeks, a bazillion papers to write and tests to study for. I can barely sit in class without writhing in pain. Advice? Should I go to the campus clinic, see the physical therapists? I would take my leftover muscle relaxants, but they make me a little loopy and I fall asleep within minutes, and I have to write my papers, prepare presentations and study! Please help! I live 3 hours away from home

I would do as you suggest – go to the campus clinic. The PT might be able to tell you some type of stretching exercises you can do to give you relief, if only temporary relief.

I am 23 weeks pregnant and have severe back pain when I walk or am on my feet for a while?
Question by newmommy: I am 23 weeks pregnant and have severe back pain when I walk or am on my feet for a while?
My OB suggested a pregnancy support belt because she said that the baby is throwing off my equilibrium and posture. I was wondering if anyone has worn this kind of belt and if so which brand would you recommend. This is my first pregnancy and I have no experience with this so any answers will be very much appreciated!
I just googled sciatic nerve and the pain does seem to be in that area

I’m in the same boat! My back is KILLING me! I go see my chiropractor once a month, but my back is just getting so bad and I can’t afford to keep going to the chiropractor all the time! I’m going to try the belt as well, not sure what brand, but my doctor also said try a better supportive bra as well.

Turn over your fav shoes: look for unevenly worn soles. That’s a clue to back trouble. The best shoes? Laceup oxfords that are 1/2 unch beyond the big toe. Ask Mom to help; you should not be having HI fevers or vomitting; you should ask School Nurse or City Health Dept. for help.

Do you have a good mattress? I had issues like that for a while, but I spent a decent amount on a new mattress and boxspring (you don’t have to have the best though). A good firm support on your back at night can make a world of difference.

Back pain 7 months after having an epidural?
Question by calilove3456: Back pain 7 months after having an epidural?
I have really bad lower back pain. It is sharp and starts in my lower back in the middle goes down my bottom and into my legs to my knees. Is this nerve pain? How can this be treated?
Best answer:
Answer by Kat
It is very, very unlikely that it was the epidural, but it does sound like nerve pain- particularly the sciatic nerve. A variety of things can cause this, including bad menstrual cramps, or a condition called sciatica- heat and OTC analgesics can help. You should make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible; only a professional can identify what’s causing it and fix it for you.

What is causing this terrible pain?
Question by Erica C: What is causing this terrible pain?
For a few months, I’ve been having terrible pain in my back. On my lower right side I get a terrible pain that hurts when I sit, stand up, and even walk. It’s a sharp pain. My Back Hurts!!!! Lower Back Pain…..?
Question by Tired Mom: My Back Hurts!!!! Lower Back Pain…..?
So my back has been hurting for a few months now. Its lower back and goes into my butt a little. When I wake up in the morning, its really bad. I can crouch down, I can bend over on an L shape, but I cant put on my socks and shoes. Its a struggle every morning to get these on. If I stretch, it seems to help a little, but not much at all. It is a constant pain througout the day, but usually goes away by the end of the day. So the bending is what is killing me.
Nothing in my life has changed – same bed, same types of shoes, all that is normal.
The differences – I have gained about 20 lbs. I weighed 200 and now I weigh 220. And all the weight is in my stomach, so maybe that is a problem.
So any suggestions??? I went to a chiropractor and he sdjusted me but it didnt help. Could it be my kidneys? Is it my back? Any thoughts???

It’s in your back all right. I am not sure how easy this will be for you but it’s the only way I know to do those things. Here is how you release the muscles that are pinched and giving you your trouble:
Back:
Place your left hand on your left knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine. Press on it and hold. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After about 30 seconds there should be a release happening and when it does slowly lower yourself forward onto your right leg. If you can lean over the outside edge of your leg it will be better for your release. Continue holding for a total of one minute. Then release but rest your body there for one minute longer. Then reverse and do the right side.

HELP, low back pain after period?
Question by Newlywed: HELP, low back pain after period?
So i just ended my menstrual cycle about 3 days ago. During my period I had cramps and low back pain and usually this goes away when my period is over. Well the cramps have gone away but the low back pain has not. Ice and heating pads don’t seem to help. I am wondering if it is just built up gas or maybe I hurt my back. Other than the low back pain and achy legs I don’t have any other symptoms. Any insight would be appreciated.
